How to put dimension in an isometric object from a 2D drawing? That is the question I received from one of my colleagues sometimes ago, what my colleagues trying to say is, he’s basically want to put a dimension aligned to the isometric object. At first, I thought it is not possible to put a dimension on a isometric object within a 2d drawing, because prior to that question, I have not done such a thing. Good thing one of our senior colleagues had encounter such a predicament before, and so he teach us how to do it.
Dimensioning an Isometric drawing is easily to forget, specially if you ‘re not using it frequently because it is not a single command, it is a series of commands composed specifically to do one task. That’s why it is best that I should blog this tutorials.
So here it is.
First, after you have created your isometric object put a dimension by using the command, DIMALIGNED by typing it in the command prompt or click the dimaligned icon.
Second, after you put the dimension in place, use the command, DIMEDIT, by typing it in the command prompt or you can click the dimedit icon.
At the command prompt, a selection type will appear [Home/New/Rotate/Oblique]. Choose the OBLIQUE selection type, then select the dimension in your drawing. Then key-in the desired obliquing angle at the command prompt.
And lastly, use the command, DDEDIT, key in ddedit command or simply ED from the command prompt. Then select the TEXT from the dimension you had just put on the isometric object. Then at the dialog box key-in the desired obliquing angle of the text.
