Object removed from selection set

pickadd_gifOne afternoon my colleagues asked me about something in his AutoCAD.
He was wondering why when he was using command copy and selecting an object, he cannot select multiple object, whenever he select another object, the previous object he was selected were removed from the selection set.

After looking to what his doing I found out that it was the case when the PICKADD value is set to 0 (turns off), instead of its default value which is 1 (turn on)

When the value PICKADD set to 0, the objects most recently selected become the selection set. The previously selected objects are removed from selection set. But by pressing SHIFT key on your keyboard while selecting you can add more objects to the selection set.

however the value of PICKADD set to 1, each object selected, either individually or by windowing, is added to the current selection set. To removed object from the selection set press SHIFT, while selecting.

Missing arial text in polygonal mview

Have you encounter problems in AutoCAD like, when you are zooming out from the paper space in your drawing, the Arial text are visible but when you zooming back in, it does not appear at all in your screen?, but when you move back to model space, the Arial text is there and visible, then worst of all is when you print the drawing, all Arial text does not print at all.

This all happen in a drawing that using a polygonal MVIEW, but in a regular MVIEW
this does not an issue at all.

Anyway, I did some searching from the internet and here is the solution that I found that works with my case.

Go to your desktop, right click at the AutoCAD Icon, click properties, then at the dialog box, click the compatibility panel, then uncheck all check box but check the disable desktop composition, click apply then ok, and relaunch AutoCAD.

How to Add Breakline Symbol in Dimension Line

How to add a breakline symbol to a dimension line?, that’s the question. Sometimes in a AutoCAD Draftsman’s career, they will encounter such drawing that has an object that needs to be shown with breakline symbol in order to fit the drawing inside the drawing area. And ofcourse a drawing cannot be called as a working drawing if the drawing has no Annotations, Title, and specially if no Dimensions.

In a drawing that has an object that shown with breakline symbol, it is recommended that it must come up also with a dimensioning with a breakline symbol or jog symbol. And that’s the time, the command DIMJOGLINE will be needed. You can find the DIMJOGLINE command at the Dimension Toolbar, or at the Dimension pulldown menu, Jogged Linear. Alternatively, you can just type DIMJOGLINE at the command prompt.

Jogged Linear Dimension

DIMJOGLINE is an AutoCAD command that can create a breakline symbol like object, that can be use in a linear dimension line. Jog symbol are used to represent a dimension value that does not the actual measurement of an object. Typically, the actual measurement value of the dimension is smaller than the displayed value. Once you already made the JOG symbol you can modify it’s position by using GRIPS.

Using Select Similar and Quick Select command

As I have discussed in my previous post, to be able to speed up the works of the Draftsman and Architects alike. One should know some techniques to do so. One technique that I already talk about was, tha using of command Quick Dimension. So now, two more commands that I know, will helps alot to make our works done, in a fastest way possible. These commands are the Select Similar and Quick Select command.

Select Similar

Select Similar command, is a command creating a selection set of objects base on the same layer and have the same style. With this command, you can perform a global change to your drawing, by just selecting a initial object, and all objects that are on the same layer and have same style will also be selected.

Calculating Area of an object in AutoCAD

There are several ways to calculate or obtain the area and perimeter of an object in AutoCAD. And one of these ways is by using the AREA command. You can find it under the Tools pulldown menu, then Inquiry. Or at the command prompt, type Area.

Using SuperHatch

Probably, the best newly added features of express tools on AutoCAD architecture 2008 is the SuperHatch. Many might not agree with me, but for me, this is one of the coolest if not, one of the best addition on AutoCAD so far.

Command Alias Editor

Aside from modifying your command thru PGP files which I already discussed it here, and here on where you can find it, and how you can modify it. There is also another way of modifying your AutoCAD command that is thru Command Alias Editor, which you can find under the Express menu, and under Tools. And from the command prompt type ALIASEDIT.

View Transitions

I’ve been using AutoCAD for more than a decade now,  starting from Rel. 13 up to now AutoCAD 2008, Since the time I’m using AutoCAD I haven’t encountered these animation “thing” whenever I am using zoom command on AutoCAD 2008.  At first I thought I should be impressed with it but I felt otherwise,  in short I always got annoyed with it. Other user might agreed with me with these as some of my colleagues do when they encountered it by themselves.

AutoCAD Dashboard

Being quite new on using the latest version of AutoCAD, you always have this  excitement when you discover something new or new tools that you haven’t been used in the previous version of AutoCAD. Just like when I discovered about this Dashboard on AutoCAD Architecture 2008.

This new tool called Dashboard seems like a collection of usefull toolbars, control panels that fitted into one panel. Using these new tool, will reduce the display of different toolbars and surely makes you maximise the available area of workspace in your monitor.
